Twice the Intelligence. Still Nothing Leaves Your Home.

Why Matic is among the first to build on NVIDIA Jetson Orin Nano 2.

This morning NVIDIA announced Jetson Orin Nano 2, a new robotics computer for entry-level edge AI. Matic is among the first to adopt it.

Here is why that matters to a family, and not just to an engineer.

Almost every smart device in your home is not actually smart. It is a microphone and a camera with a good internet connection. The intelligence lives somewhere else, in a data center, on someone else's machine, running on your life. The industry made that trade a long time ago and stopped mentioning it.

We refused to make it. Every Matic robot sees through five RGB cameras. No LiDAR. No depth sensor. Every frame is processed on the robot itself. Your home never leaves your home without your explicit permission.

That decision cost us years. When you put all the intelligence on the robot, you inherit every constraint at once. A consumer price. A battery. A chassis that has to look like it belongs in a living room. Thermal limits that come with all three. Everything has to fit inside a body a family will actually let through the front door.

Which is why a chip announcement is a product announcement for us.

The arithmetic

Jetson Orin Nano 2 delivers 78 trillion operations per second of AI compute. Twice the inference performance of its predecessor, in the same form factor. In 15-watt mode, it draws 40 percent less power for the same performance.

In a home robot, that arithmetic is the product. More intelligence in the same chassis. Longer runtime on the same battery. At a price families can actually afford.

For most companies, more compute at the edge is a nice optimization. For us it is the whole thing compounding, because we already put everything there. Every gain goes directly to the customer. None of it gets traded away for a cloud connection we never built.

What we do with it

More intuitive interactions. Conversational AI. Gesture detection. Deeper context of the home through precision mapping and semantic understanding. Autonomous cleaning that holds up when the home changes, which it does, constantly.

Some of this you can already see. On August 13 we launched Cues, spoken command and gesture control in more than 70 languages, processed entirely on the robot. No app required. You say "Matic, clean this" and point at the mess. Audio and video are handled on-device. Nothing leaves the walls of your home without your explicit permission.

When the robot meets something new and handles it imperfectly, it saves a short clip. That clip sits on the robot until you decide to share it. Most people do. It gets labeled, fed back into the model, and makes every robot in the fleet smarter, including yours. No capital buys that flywheel. It has to be earned, one home at a time.

The foundation is already deployed

This is not a roadmap. Matic robots have navigated 450,000 miles and cleaned 400 million square feet inside real homes, adding 3 million square feet every day. More than 13,000 robots are in homes across America. The average customer runs theirs seven times a week.

Our visual SLAM is engineered to 99.999 percent accuracy and builds absolute maps rather than relative ones. The robot knows where it is in your home the way you do, not because it started at the dock.

It tells a rug from a wood floor and vacuums both while mopping only the wood. It tells a shoe from a cable from a dog toy, and cleans around them the way a person would.

Wired gave Matic a 10 out of 10, the first perfect score it has awarded a robot vacuum in 17 years of testing. The Verge tested roughly 80 competitors and named it the best.

Where this goes

We build through the sequence nature proved and no one gets to reorder. Perception first. Then manipulation. Then long-horizon planning.

Phase one, perception and navigation, is nearly complete. Phase two, manipulation, is beginning. We do not announce phase three. We intend to earn it.

Every capability built on the floor transfers. There is no wasted work. The floor is where the foundation gets laid, and more compute on the robot is how the next phase becomes possible without asking a family to give up anything to get it.

The NVIDIA Jetson Orin Nano 2 module and developer kit are expected to be available in the first half of 2027. Matic ships on NVIDIA Jetson today, and will ship with Jetson Orin Nano 2 as soon as it is available.

The point

The industry keeps promising the intelligence will arrive once the connection is fast enough. We took the harder path and put all of it on the robot.

Twice the intelligence. Same four walls. Nothing crosses them without your permission.
